“I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us.” Ro. 8:18
Dear Friends,
For a long time, physicists have sought after a Theory of Everything (TOE) which would fully explain and link together all aspects of the universe. Although many helpful explanations and theories have been proposed they always fall far short. The best answer, in my view, is the biblical one (i.e. GOD).
Why is there a universe precisely calibrated for life on earth? Why is the earth full of beauty, intricacy, complexity, harmony, bounty and wonder? Answer: A gracious, powerful, loving God created it that way. Genesis 1,2; Psalm 8
Why, though, is there so much hardship, suffering and death?
Short answer: Because we, God’s children, who were designed to live in love with Him and one another have rebelled, broken our relationships, and are experiencing the consequences and repercussions. Genesis 3; Ephesians 2:3
What can be done about this? Answer: God, despite our rebellion, in love chooses to be with us in our trials. Ps. 23:4; Matthew 28:20 Further, God takes our human form, suffers as we do and sacrifices his life for our forgiveness and restoration – and promises us glory with him forever. 1 Peter 2:24
The season of Lent is one in which we are called to ponder deeply the love demonstrated for us in the suffering and death of our Lord Jesus Christ. The cross of Christ makes sense of this strange world. When we share in the Lord’s Supper we remember his body broken and his blood shed for us. Please join with us on Sunday, February 18th, as we do so.
In the peace and love of Jesus,
Harry
