Upcoming Events and Notices

Today: “A Gospel Celebration” at 3:00 p.m. at Haliburton United Church, presented by the Highlands Festival Singers under the direction of Melissa Stephens. Tickets are $15. A second performance is scheduled May 2 at 7:30 p.m.

May is Manse Month for the Haliburton Pastoral Charge. The Manse is also Haliburton United Church’s monthly mission for May. The upkeep of the manse is the responsibility of all churches in the charge, and each year church participants are asked to prayerfully consider contributing to the manse account to support repairs. Current projects are replacement of the oil tank (within two months, $4,000) and window replacements (TBD).

Tuesday, May 2: Minds in Motion – new session begins – *note time change*. The next session of this program runs Tuesdays from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at Haliburton UC until June 20. An Alzheimer’s Society program designed to provide physical activity and mental and social stimulation. $30/couple for 8 weeks. Call Jennifer at 705-748-5131 x225.

Tuesday, May 2: “A Gospel Celebration” at 7:30 p.m. at Haliburton United Church, presented by the Highlands Festival Singers under the direction of Melissa Stephens. Tickets are $15 and are available at Master’s Bookstore in Haliburton and Minden Pharmasave in Minden.

May 7 to June 18: Formula for Success Baby Bottle Campaign. This annual fundraiser for the Pregnancy Care and Family Support Centre runs from Mother’s Day to Father’s Day. The PCFSC is 100% donor-supported and has seen that “Your $$ + PCFSC = Changed Lives.” To donate you can pick up a baby bottle at Haliburton UC and fill it or use cheque or EFT (electronic funds transfer) or use your credit card online via the PCFSC website at haliburtonpregnancycentre.ca. Tax receipts are issued.

Wednesday, May 10: Basic Income: A Bold Response to Poverty and Inequality. A discussion at Haliburton UC. With persistent poverty, rising inequality and the changing nature of work, a basic income has the potential to contribute to a dignified life for all. Light dinner at 5:30 p.m., workshop from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. No cost, but please register with Joan Grant by clicking HERE.

Saturday, May 13: Men’s Breakfast at 8:30 a.m. at Haliburton UC. Those unable to attend are invited to follow the reading at home. For more information contact the office at 705-457-1891.

Saturday, May 13: Prayer for Hali. Aprayer walk from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. focused on Haliburton. Meet at the train by the high school. All ages are welcome. Organized by Youth Unlimited. For more information email Kyle by clicking HERE.

Wednesday, May 31: Wednesday Afternoon at the Movies at St. George’s. Enjoy movie screenings at 1:30 p.m. on the last Wednesday of each month at St. George’s Anglican Church (except in July and August). Admission is free. The May screening is “Friendly Persuasion”.

Current Events and Notices

Monthly mission: Our mission for May is the Manse. For details and to learn how to donate, visit the Monthly Missions page on the HUC website.

Sundays: Service in church and online via livestream on YouTube at 11:15 a.m.

Ecumenical Bible Study: The group meets Tuesdays at 7 p.m. via Zoom, facilitated by Jean Schlicklin Tyler. This new year in the ordinary time brings the Gospel of Mark for the Sunday readings. The Ignatius 5 step discernment process will be used as a method of prayer for the study. Contact Jean for the Zoom link by email or at 705-457-2214.

Women to Women Bible Study: This study is held on the second and fourth Wednesdays of the month from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. on Zoom. Participants study the Word using a simple study method, pray and share their lives and concerns. New participants are welcome, whether on or off web camera or by phone, even just to listen in. Sunday School: A selection of lessons and interactive materials is posted on the Sunday School web page for downloading for use at home to encourage kids in their faith. Classes are on hiatus.
